History

OlySoft was founded in 1988 as a Canadian corporation registered in Calgary, it is owned by Stanislaw (Kuba) Sliwinski and was established in Marietta, Ga in October 1996, specializing in IT management, consulting and integration.

From his involvement in the Winter Games in Albertville France, Kuba Sliwinski learned about the complexity of dealing with thousands of desktop, mobile, and server computers. During these dealings he realized that a better way to manage them was needed. There he met Nicolas Philippe and together in 1990 they architected the first Software Distribution solution.

The tight scheduling was such that they had to come up with a way to configure the hardware and software for thousands of computers within a very short time-span. They had less than a month from the moment a computer first arrived at a staging area until it had to be delivered to the venue, where it would be used to support the sports competitions. During this time, the mission was to add hardware components, load the operating system and application software, configure network addresses as well as other information unique to the computer, and test the system before delivery to the venue. For every sports competition, each computer played a specific role in scoring, timing, and delivery of information, therefore a unique combination of software had to be loaded on it, further complicating things.

Not only did the application software change, as the computers were getting ready to move to the venues, further changes took place during the actual sports competitions. This necessitated updates to the software already loaded on the computers. These changes had to be carefully controlled and synchronized to make sure that the configuration changes of all computers for a given sport took place at the same time, but outside competition hours.

The old approach of handling the whole thing was based on a manual method, but it soon became clear that there were not enough skilled people to do all of the work, especially after the computers had been delivered to the venues. So, Software Distribution was born. Initially it was an automated collection of tools and techniques used to perform the same tasks that had previously required hands-on methods. By automating processes, PC Factory was not only able to configure newly arrived computers faster and more accurately, but keep them correctly configured as software changes arrived during the competitions.

The methodologies and automation tools have continued to evolve and become more robust over the course of several different events. In Barcelona Spain, monitoring was added, so that the current status of each computer could also be reported. In Lillehammer Norway, support for local servers was added and the "pull" process mastered. In Atlanta Georgia, the software capability was expanded to include MQ, CICS and OS/2 CID build process as well as support for an office environment. In Nagano Japan, support for full integrated Netview monitoring of the PC's including SNMP alerts came about. And, in Sydney Australia, proprietary Software Distribution tools were replaced with API's to TIVOLI services in the drive to make the solution universal by encompassing other tools such as TIVOLI, SMS, Open View and more.

The problems for which our software management solutions were developed are currently being experienced by almost every enterprise that needs to support large numbers of computers, be they servers, desktops, mobiles, workstations, PDAs, or special purpose devices. So, OlySoft turned their attention to creating software management solutions for healthcare, insurance and media enterprises. Our solution is based on the knowledge that Kuba, Nicolas and their whole Team learned from their involvement in fourteen years of sports competitions and that first software management solution in France.

Our focus continues to be on the development and automation of methodologies for the improved management of clients and servers, be they computers, PDA's, mobile phones and much more.
